Robert "Bob" Van Hooren

February 04 1965 - January 08 2026

Bob set down his last beer on January 8, 2026, full of life right to the end.

Bob was a man with a sharp sense of humour, perfect comedic timing, and a personality that filled every room he entered. He was endlessly entertaining, quick with a remark, and never short on opinions. Bob had a special gift for causing a little trouble wherever he went-often unintentionally, sometimes absolutely intentionally-and yes, that talent extended even to his caregivers. He kept them on their toes, made them laugh, and occasionally tested their patience… usually all at the same time.
His greatest passion was golf, a sport he loved deeply and discussed endlessly, regardless of how the last round actually went. He was a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens, loved watching sports of any kind, and firmly believed that most of life’s problems could be improved with good company and a cold beer. Bob always had the best time-and made sure everyone around him did too.

Bob’s greatest love was his wife, Diana (née Lombardi), his rock, his constant, and the one person who supported him endlessly, loved him unconditionally, and truly kept him grounded. He was a devoted father to his son Jacob, whom he loved beyond measure and shared a special connection. Bob also carried in his heart his twins, Daniel and Andrea, who passed away in 2001 and were always remembered.

He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Montagano and Patti Martin (Craig), who adored him and shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and stories. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Rita Nolan (Lombardi), who never hesitated to give him “what for,” and his brother-in-law David Lombardi.  Bob proudly held the title of best son-in-law to Yolanda and Domenic Lombardi, whom he adored.

Bob was a loving uncle to his nieces and nephews: Lauren Vilandre (Chris) and their children Harper and Gabriel; Michael Montagano (Erika) and their children Luca and Leighton; Kyle Martin; Kelsea Martin (Alex Keys); Tamara Burke (Cameron); Tabitha Nolan and Domenic “Little “D” Lombardi, many of whom has at least one Uncle Bob story to tell!
He was predeceased by his parents, Andre Van Hooren (2013) and Diane Van Hooren (2024) who raised Bob and his sisters in a home filled with love, laughter, and amazing memories.

Bob’s best bud was his cousin Dan Plante, with whom he shared countless laughs, long conversations, and many well-earned “pops.” Their friendship was built on loyalty, humour, and so many memories - already legendary - are expected to get better and louder with time.

Bob also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Jax and Georgia, who know something is wrong but can’t quite understand why he hasn’t come home - or why the treats are late.

Bob lived life fully, laughed loudly, loved fiercely, and left behind a lifetime of stories. The world is quieter, less sarcastic, and undeniably less fun without him-but those who loved him will keep his spirit alive, preferably while watching a game, telling stories, and raising a beer in his honour.

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Freeman, who understood Bob’s frankness and his ability to not mince words, and who met him with remarkable patience and compassion, and to Dr. Elfiki, who quickly came to appreciate Bob’s straightforward nature and engaged thoughtfully with his many questions and his desire to fully understand every decision. We also thank Dr. Meloche, the chemotherapy suite, and nursing staff on 4 North at WRH Met Campus, whose dedication and exceptional care meant more to us than words can express. A very special thank you goes to Shelley, Bob’s home nurse, who quickly realized she had met her match once the gloves came off-and who handled every moment with professionalism, patience, and grace.

Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home (Banwell Chapel), 11677 Tecumseh Rd E (519-253-7235) on Monday January 12, 2026 from 2 to 5pm and 7 to 9pm.  Cremation to follow
